Sometimes I wonder

Sometimes I wonder about my son. I mean over the weekend, he came home and hadn't turned in any of his homework he was supposed to turn in on Thursday and Friday. So he got in big trouble.

Last night I got an e-mail from one of his teachers. He hadn't turned in his Mondays homework. I got to questioning him. He just last night brought home Mondays and "conveniently" left Tuesdays homework in his locker. I took him in early today, so he could go get it and get it done. He was in some big trouble.

Last night Big J's mom called me and asked if Kiddo was going to go to the dance. I said, "what dance?" I guess there was a back to school dance. I asked Kiddo why he didn't tell me about it. He said he didn't want to go. I said, why don't you want to go. He told me it was because he didn't have a tuxedo.

OMG I about bust a gut at that. We kept asking him if he wanted to go because Big J wanted to go. And his mom wanted them to hang out. My son totally copped the "I'm shy and unsure of myself" card.

So...he said he would skip this dance, and ask his friends what it was all about, and what they did at it. Then he would go to the next dance. I guess that is if he will even tell me when it is.

Well he better bring his homework home tonight. If you all hear on the news about some lady, murdering her son for not bringing home his homework, it might just be me. lol

Have a good Wednesday everyone.

I wonder what is going on w/ him? Is it the cool thing to diss homework, so he's trying to fit in or something? Bless your heart, you've had a rough week! I hope it gets better! You'll get those boys in gear and actin' like they should no doubt.

gotta love kids...I swear they do these things because they think they can drive us insane and then laugh at us as we sit in a corner slamming our head against the wall..lol.

That was me, I never did my homework or went to dances.

I'm still not sure about the reasoning behind the homework.

The only solution is to micro-manage the whole homework thing until it's second nature.

mom--yeah, Kiddo tries crap after he says he wants to do something and he gets told to suck it up and deal also.

Flake---I'm sure the men in my household just laugh in their "secret man meetings" about how insane they make us women

Hammer--We had done homework that way in elementary school, that's why I can't figure out why he's being such a turd.

WOW! So my oldest wasn't odd to have done the same thing at the beginning of middle school? Cool! You are so lucky your Kiddo's teachers have let you know right away. My daughter's teachers waited until the 1st term was almost over and the habit had been firmly set. We had a HORRIBLE time breaking that habit and instilling the old sense of responsibility!

I think it has something to do with the "newness" of middle school, the sudden increase in personal responsibility when the kids aren't quite ready, and the myriad distractions (both external and internal) as they enter puberty.

By the way, I never attended any of my middle school dances, and only attend my high school prom as a photographer. Dancing just wasn't my style (still isn't, btw) and I don't think I missed anything, to tell you the truth.

My oldest attend her school's first dance last year against my wish that she not waste her time, and came home and said, "Dad, you were right, it was lame!" Don't force him to go!

That's my 2 cents worth.. which, lately, is almost worth YOUR two cents! LOL!

Phoenix---Yeah you are so right. I would never push him in something like that. Now if he said he wanted to go, and I dished out money and bought an outfit (for like prom) then he backed out. You can bet your happy ass I would force him. lmao

Sounds like a teenage boy to me...

I wonder what is underneath all that "who cares" attitude. I'm sure it's more than what he's letting on about.

Hope you find out soon!

On Kiddo's behalf it sounds like he really doesn't like school much. When I was younger I had a hard time at school and did my best to avoid anything to do with it. I skiped homework and social events, I just didn't want to deal with the school. I had friends, but also used to get picked on a lot because I was overwieght. So, for whatever reason, maybe Kiddo is just hating school, cause it sounds a lot like me once upon a time (before the growth spurt that caused everyone to leave me alone)and if so you need to try and talk to him and find out why.

jj----ahhhhhhhh don't say teenager, I'm not ready for that. I got a couple years still. hehehehe

Aza---He never liked school till last year. And he has been picked on alot. Don't worry, I'm always on top of it. hehehe

Jamie--Welcome!!! One child, unless you count the husband and pets. hehehe Ours go back to school, middle of August, but get out by end of May.

Corky--Yeah, you would think he would have no butt left, with how much I chew it.

LMAO! I tux for a school dance!

As for the homework, awesome move, bringing him in early to get it done! My mom used to make us do our homework AS SOON as we got home from school. Before we could do anything else. I'm sure she would have driven me back to the school to get it too, had I forgotten mine!
